About the museum

What is the Miniature Museum Amsterdam

A new museum experience on Museum Square where you see the history of Amsterdam in carefully constructed miniatures, powerful films and compact stories. It is a journey through time in a form that is instantly appealing.

Why miniatures

Because thumbnails do something that text panels never manage. They make history visual, concrete and appealing. You see the origins of the city, the commerce, the explosions of creativity and the iconic places that shaped Amsterdam.

What to see

At the Miniature Museum Amsterdam you will discover the history of the city in miniature. Through detailed miniatures, you will see famous places, historical moments and typical Amsterdam scenes.

You will see, among other things:
- The origins of Amsterdam around 1275
- the Dam in 1675
- the mills of the Zaanse Schans
- Amsterdam during World War II
- the squatter riots and Amsterdam Pride

Many models are interactive: at the touch of a button, lights turn on, sounds are heard or a scene comes to life.

So you experience the history of Amsterdam in a surprising way, a mini Amsterdam in which the city's history comes to life.

For whom is this museum

For anyone who wants to understand Amsterdam without struggling through thick books or crowded exhibitions, and for anyone who is a fan of miniatures. Tourists get an overview. Amsterdammers recognize their city. Families have an experience that captivates children and adults alike.

How long a visit lasts

Average 60 minutes. We deliberately kept the format tight so you see a lot without getting tired.

Is the museum suitable for children

Sure. Children respond strongly to miniatures and can effortlessly follow what is happening because of the short films. This is a museum where families don't fall apart after ten minutes.

Will the museum be expanded

Yes. The collection is growing all the time. New miniatures, new scenes, new films. The museum lives and develops with the city.
